Nosei Sakata
[*0]

*0 is the mathematically inclined pseudonym for japanese puretone artist Nosei Sakata. Asterisk-zero means ''multiplied by zero (calculation)'' The name of his project refers to the multiplication of anything times zero equating zero, thus giving you an idea of what is sonically in store on his fourth recording, so answers are zero in all cases as a result *0 means ''nothing''. That is main concept of *0's works, the oriental thought about nothing, japanease thougt about ''mu'' (nothing in japanease). nothing ...nothing could create all things. Sakata's first few recordings had been attempts by this Japanese artist to out-muscle Ryoji Ikeda's sinewave and bleep constructions, with a great deal of success. Nosei Sakata has released solo albums on Meme and his own Japanese Mu Label in addition to collaborating with Richard Chartier on 0/r (12k). A musician and a designer Sakata creates audio which barely registers on the audio-spectrum. His most recent works are exploring inaudible soundwave-based explorations. *0 is part of the new wave of Japanese minimalists exploring computerized anti-music. His 12k debut was a previously unreleased track on the ''.aiff'' compilation.

Label: V2_Archief
Catalog: V231
Format: CD
Country: Netherlands
Released: 15 Jan 2002
Genre: Electronic
Style: Abstract, Experimental, Minimal

Notes: CD in green rubber fetish-pak. This split CD combines two of the most interesting artists from Japan. *0’s piece 2.7K is inspired by the remnant heat that fills the universe called the "Cosmic Microwave Background Radiation." "2.7K" is the absolute temperature of Cosmic Microwave Background Radiation. It shows that the Universe in its early days was extremely dense and hot and had cooled down to 2.7 kelvins as it expanded. It fills the universe and can be seen everywhere we look. The two pieces by Kozo Inada “b [0]” and “b [1]” take their inspiration from the niche that exists in the subconscious where stillness and motion meet in harmony.
Though the source of inspiration is very different, the compositions of both artists work together very well. Both use sounds in the microwave soundspectrum to carefully build their music with.

Kozo Inada

Kozo Inada is a japanese sound artist who has previously released records on various labels around the world
(Staalplaat, Selektion, Digital Narcis, V2)

His work is so amazing, so different, so scientific, so avant-garde…
It is not classical japan-noise with terrible loud, destructive and hurting soundscapes. It's more experimental, more filigran.
And it's not only music, it's entertainment.
Inada works basically with noises, makes even quiet sounds audible and condenses everything into an energetic sound mass with developing soundscapes.
You can't hear all passages of his tracks because the frequencies he uses sometimes are not hearable for humans (but for cats, dogs and bats;-)).
But you can see them or feel them, if the membranes of your bass loudspeakers start moving rhythmically fore and back and the bass reflex tube breathes out intermittently.
The Japanese himself speaks of the
"search for a perfect Flow".

in making e[], he uses mainly various field-recording sound materials: gongs of temple, children's laughter, chirp of insects... they are prolonged, shortened and processed so carefully that we are overwhelmed by his sound flow, to find ourselves deeply involved in his aesthetic
